PC Imageware Corporation Minds Your Assets

By Newman P. Mallon

Toronto-based, PC Imageware Corporation having successfully completed its Canadian launch of Asset MINDER PRO is now expanding into the U.S. marketplace.

Asset MINDER PRO a unique application designed to record and track information about any asset, is particularly useful in tracking IT assets. Mark Farrow, Information Systems and Telecommunications manager at Mississauga’s Credit Valley Hospital said, "We had been looking for ways to manage our assets in an economical way, and our review showed that Asset MINDER PRO made the most sense for our organization. It will handle all the complex issues of managing our technical assets."

Asset MINDER PRO records all the information you need including the asset’s owner, location, model, version, serial number, manufacturer, and retail vendor, as well as purchase, warranty and move history information. Scanned image or OLE attachments allow storage of LAN diagrams, photographs and videos, spec sheets or any other information IT Managers need at their fingertips. Asset MINDER PRO also stores hot-linked web page and e-mail addresses to provide a complete and very powerful data repository.

Flexible multi-criteria search and report features provide the necessary analysis to make best-of-breed product, vendor and manufacturer selections to reduce costs. Pop-up alarms ensure any time-sensitive events like preventative maintenance are never missed. Built-in bar-code scanning and label printing provide easy "check-in, check-out" of assets -- much like books in a library.

There are tools such as Tivoli, MS SMS and Norton Administrator available to administer LAN's and gather on-line configuration data. "These provide an inventory of items on a LAN at a particular time but do not provide historical information or track items that are out for service or in storage. Combining all sources of information is critical to effectively track the mobile assets of the 90’s with their short upgrade cycles," said Gerd Richter, Vice President of Systems Enabling at PCI.

PC Imageware president Nick Francis agreed, "Asset MINDER PRO also tracks non-IT resources such as furniture and AV equipment to provide a central database for all of a company’s physical assets. This allows you to efficiently allocate IT and other resources to where they are needed. Plus, in the event of a loss for an insurance claim, you’ll have a serialized asset list. Particularly for year 2000 changes, you must identify and list each IT component for compliance".

Rob Massaar, President of Jewelstone Systems Inc., a software developer specializing in mutual fund applications, and an Asset MINDER PRO user said, "Over the last two years our company has grown quite a bit and we had no way of accurately tracking everything. If we needed something we just bought it instead of reallocating existing resources to where they could be best utilized. Now I can see exactly what we have in order to determine what we really need, saving time and money".

Francis adds, "To aid in user implementation, we have established a VAR channel who provide year 2000 compliance testing, importing of existing data, or inventory updating services and we have a mobile version for portable computers under development that will speed year end asset reconciliation’s. "

Asset MINDER PRO costs only $599.00 for a single user version, uses "wizards" for entry and will import from many popular programs to reduce implementation time and provide a very quick, quantifiable pay back.
